Dan Mertz wins Championship Flight in Keene City Golf Tourney
October 03, 2016

A local dentist drilled it in the fairway enough Sunday to pull out a win in the Championship Flight of the 4th annual Keene City Golf Championship at Hidden Creek Golf Course in Burleson.

Dan Mertz, of Mertz Family Dentistry in Keene, won the Championship Flight with a one-over-par 71, defeating two-time defending champ Ricky Stephens. The regular par 72 course became a par 70 when course administration shortened two par-4 holes because of standing water on the fairway due to recent rains.

Keene High School girls basketball coach John McFarlin won the Open Division with an 85, and Keene High School senior Brooke Hinerman won the Women's Division with an 88.

The tournament was open to players who currently reside in Keene, or are a current or former employee of an entity in Keene, or
are a graduate or spouse of a graduate of Keene schools.

Trophies will be presented to the winning trio during the sold out 25th annual Keene Chamber of Commerce banquet Thursday night at the new Keene Community Center.

The 5th annual Keene City Championship will be Sunday Oct. 20, 2019.
